Walk-ins are welcome for comprehensive eye exams, contact-lens visits, urgent eye concerns and routine follow-ups every day we’re open. Walk-in patients are accommodated around scheduled appointments, so wait times and same-day availability can vary. Call ahead when possible, or reserve a same-day appointment online.
Iris Optometric Center is a family-owned and operated practice that has served Oakland since 1982. Our three optometrists bring more than 70 years of combined experience, providing attentive, personalized care for children and adults. Eye exams are available directly in English and Spanish.
Comprehensive eye exams include an evaluation of your vision, prescription, eye pressure, binocular vision and overall eye health. Every comprehensive exam includes an eyeglass prescription. Patients who wear or want contact lenses can select a contact-lens exam, which includes both eyeglass and contact-lens prescriptions.
Our optometrists also look for eye changes that may relate to broader health conditions, including diabetes, hypertension and migraines, as well as medication effects.
Walk-in urgent evaluations are available for redness, irritation, inflammation, allergies, possible infections, minor scratches and foreign-body concerns. Our optometrists can remove superficial foreign objects and prescribe medication when appropriate.
Iris treats many bacterial and viral eye infections and evaluates suspected fungal or parasitic conditions. When an infection or injury requires more specialized treatment, we refer patients to the appropriate specialist. Follow-up visits are also available to monitor healing and recovery.
iCare EIDON retinal imaging is offered to every patient receiving a comprehensive eye exam. It captures clear, detailed photographs of the retina, which your optometrist can review with you during the same visit.
When EIDON imaging is completed, dilation often may not be necessary. Patients who decline retinal imaging may request dilation instead. Imaging is available for a nominal additional fee. If you are referred for specialized care, your images can be securely sent to the receiving office.
Iris fits soft and rigid gas-permeable contact lenses, including scleral lenses for irregular corneas, toric lenses for astigmatism and multifocal lenses for near-and-distance correction. Fittings are available for new and existing patients and may include trial lenses, insertion-and-removal training and follow-up adjustments.
We also provide LASIK candidacy evaluations, coordinate referrals to designated surgeons and offer pre- and postoperative care. Computer-vision and digital eye-strain services include guidance on working distance and prescriptions for computer glasses when appropriate.

Optometrist
Lia Pastorino, OD, TPG
Dr. Lia Pastorino is a Bay Area native who received her doctorate from Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in Florida. She earned baccalaureate degrees in Anthropology from UC Santa Cruz and in Vision Science from NSU. Before optometry school, Dr. Pastorino spent over 8 years in the optometric field as an optician, optometric tech, and surgical assistant, igniting her passion for the field. She recently returned to the Bay Area to bring her strong, real-world experience and holistic optometric approach to her patients in her general practice. Dr. Pastorino is able to perform a complete eye exam in Spanish. When not discussing eyes, she enjoys hiking, bad karaoke, and good food. She lives in Pt. Richmond with her husband, Daniel, and sweet hound dog Banjo.

Page Yarwood, O.D.
Dr. Yarwood has been practicing since 1976. He retired from Kaiser Permanente Oakland after 35 years and served as Chief of Optometry for 28 years. He has been practicing at Iris Eye Center in Oakland, since 2011.
Dr. Yarwood has served as President of the California Optometric Association, Alameda Contra Costa Counties Optometric Society, Bay Area Optometric Council and was bestowed as Optometrist of the Year by the COA and ACCCOS. He has been a member of the American Academy for Optometry for over 25 years. He was also appointed by Governor Davis to the California State Board of Optometry.

Patricia R. Hernandez, OD, TPG
Dr. Hernandez has over 18 years of professional experience providing extensive needs to eye patients. She received her Doctorate in Optometry from the University of California, Berkeley and her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from California Polytechnic State University. Dr. Hernandez has been involved throughout the bay area community and has been specialized in cataract and glaucoma treatments and other therapeutic procedures in an ophthalmology practice. Dr. Hernandez has devoted her knowledge to help those in need of better care when it comes to vision. She speaks fluent English and Spanish and is TPA certified.
